Freezing, the first season of the Freezing anime, consists of 12 episodes spanning the first five story arcs of the Freezing manga in plot. This season adapts the Introductory Arc, the 3rd Year Punishment Arc, the Rana Introductory Arc, the 3rd Year Retaliation Arc and the 10th Nova Clash of the manga respectively. The season debuted on AT-X in 4:3 uncensored format on January 8, 2011, and aired until April 2, 2011, with subsequent airings made on Tokyo MX in a heavily censored 16:9 widescreen format. Funimation obtained simulcasting rights and gained the licence to release a heavily censored 16:9 subtitled format on Blu-ray Disc on September 25th 2013 .[1][2]

Music[]
An official soundtrack titled "Color - Kimi wo Mamoritai" was released as a musical compilation by Media Factory, in cooperation with Yokoyama Masaru, Aika Kobayashi, MARiA, and Freezing Project to comprise six soundtracks from the first season.[3]

The opening theme used throughout the first season was "Color", a cover of a Vocaloid song by Hatsune Miku. The ending theme used throughout the first season was "Kimi wo Mamoritai". The opening and ending themes were released as a six-track compilation single named "Color and Kimi wo Mamoritai", with karaoke versions and battle themes as bonus tracks.[3]
Trivia[]
- Episodes 7, 10, and 11 are the only episodes to introduce two characters at once on an eyecatcher.
- Episode 5 had some considerable differences to the manga, as in the episode Rana meets Kazuya when Trish McKenzie, Audrey Duval, and Aika Takeuchi ambush him. While in the manga they meet when they are captured by thugs.
